A best on ground performance from Bradley Hill in Friday night’s 28-point win over Carlton has netted him his first-ever 10-vote effort from the coaches.

Hawthorn interim senior coach Brendon Bolton and Carlton coach Mick Malthouse deemed the speedy wingman the dominant player on the ground, awarding him five votes each for the maximum 10 in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award.

In his best performance of the year, Hill helped the Hawks sew up the victory early in the final quarter by kicking a crucial goal in the opening minutes to give the Hawks a 10-point lead.

Hill finished the game with 21 disposals, seven inside 50s, three goal assists and a goal.

Although his 21 touches weren’t his highest for the year, it was the way in which he used the footy that made him one of the Hawks’ most dangerous offensive weapons.

He used the ball with 90.5 per cent efficiency by hand and foot to be ranked the second-best user of the ball by any Hawk on the night.

While Hill was the overwhelming choice as best on ground, the coaches were split in their opinions of the other best performed players on the night.

Cyril Rioli received five votes for his 20 disposals, three goals and two goal assists, while Carlton forward Levi Casboult also received five for his four-goal performance

In his third game for the year, Brad Sewell had his best performance yet as he builds into some form after struggling with hamstring injuries this year.

In typical Sewell style, the veteran midfielder was pivotal in Hawthorn’s ability to win the clearances 39-35 by managing three himself (the best at Hawthorn was four), along with 29 disposals at 82.8 per cent efficiency, five marks and four tackles.

Champion Carlton midfielder Chris Judd earned four votes in his first game back from injury after 26 disposals, six tackles and six inside 50s.

Grant Birchall, meanwhile picked up a vote for his 23 disposal effort and Blues midfielder Andrew Carrazzo also got a vote.
