During the bye weekend in May, Hawthorn star Shaun Burgoyne visited Katherine with selected Club staff to catch up with Hawthorn’s affiliated Club, Big River Hawks, get involved in the community and visit some local schools.

The group visited Katherine High School and Kormilda College in Darwin to speak to students about a number of topics and issues, including the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.

Burgoyne is taking part in a mentoring program which sees him talk on Skype once a month with three students attending Katherine High and this trip allowed him to meet these students face to face.

Strength and Conditioning Coach, Luke Boyd also attended and helped out by sharing training and fitness knowledge with Big River Hawks players and at the schools.

The group also visited Katherine Gorge, participated in a football match at the community of Binjari between two Clontarf teams, visited Katherine South Primary School and cooled off in Katherine Hot Springs.

Hawthorn Football Club has been involved in a partnership program with the Katherine region since 2009, with players and support staff visiting the area 13 times over the years.
