RECRUIT James Frawley hopes to slot seamlessly into Hawthorn’s defence after officially joining the Club as an unrestricted free agent.
An All Australian full back in 2010, Frawley added to his versatility this season by playing the majority of 2014 up forward for the Demons.
He provided a valuable target alongside former teammate Chris Dawes, booting 15 goals for the season and impressing in his new role.
Frawley actually took more marks inside 50 than any other Demon this season with 23 for the year and was also ranked in the top five for forward 50 entries.
But he will return to defence for the Hawks in 2015 as he prepares to begin life in brown and gold.
“It was probably a good change for me to go down forward for a bit and add another string to my bow,” Frawley told hawthornfc.com.au
“(But) my best footy is definitely down back.
“At Hawthorn there are a good bunch of guys down forward and down back but hopefully I can slot into that defence.”
Frawley adds further strength to Hawthorn’s already formidable back six and will play alongside premiership stars Josh Gibson, Brian Lake and Ben Stratton.
Capable of playing on the league’s biggest and best tall forwards as well as matching it with smaller forwards because of his athleticism, the former Demon adds further flexibility and another option for Coach, Alastair Clarkson.
Despite already being an established AFL player with eight years experience, Frawley is hoping to learn from his new teammates.
“They’re all good players, you don’t become two and three-time premiership players by just having a kick out there for fun,” he said.
“They’re all great players and hopefully I can learn as much as I can off those guys while I’m here and put that onto the park to play my role for the team and have some success.”
