Hawthorn excitement machine Chad Wingard says the side's intensity level was a key element of its win over Richmond on Thursday night.
Following a lacklustre performance against Geelong the week prior, the Hawks led at every change against the Tigers to deliver an impressive 32-point win.
Wingard himself was exceptional, playing a defining role in the win as he gathered 15 touches, five marks and booted three important goals.
"I can guarantee you the boys are in much better spirits this week than last week," Wingard said post-match.
"Driving back down the Geelong highway wasn't a pleasant time.
"I think the biggest difference was just our intent and our energy around the ball, having Jaeger back helps too!"
Clarko: It was a great response and the response that we expected from a proud group
The 26-year-old said the group would now have to place an emphasis on replicating that game-style against the Kangaroos next week.
"North Melbourne has had a really good start to the year and historically they've been very good at Etihad.
"I think the biggest thing will be to bring that same intensity.
"We have a big break now, not playing until Sunday, so the boys can enjoy this win, recover properly but I think there's a mindset of getting onto the next one."
Wingard said, as exciting as the win was for the players, they would have relished having the fans at the MCG with them.
The two-time All Australian took time to commend the members and fans on their loyalty throughout this difficult period.
"We wish our fans were here.
"We'd just like to say that all the boys here really appreciate all the members that have stuck by us.
"We can't wait for all you guys to come out here and cheer us on, but keep cheering on from the couch and we can't wait to have you at the game soon."
