BRISBANE has declared it will be chasing Lance Franklin’s signature when he comes out of contract at the end of this season.

Franklin put contract talks on hold with the Hawks in February, citing a focus on his on field performance as the reason despite Hawthorn being keen to secure the services of its star forward.

Lions co-captain Jonathan Brown said he would love to finish his career playing alongside Franklin, a two-time Coleman medallist.

“We'd love to have Buddy Franklin up here (Brisbane)," brown told AFL.com.au

"Obviously I'm getting a bit long in the tooth down in the forward line so it'd be nice for a big star key forward to come along and take control of Brisbane's sporting landscape.”

Michael Voss’s team is the latest club to throw its hat into the ring to secure the Hawthorn star, who will become a Restricted Free Agent at the end of this season.

Already, Greater Wester Sydney, Fremantle and Adelaide have been rumoured to have looked at the possibility of recruiting Franklin.

Lions football manager Dean Warren confirmed Brisbane’s interest in Franklin, declaring it has the room in its salary cap to recruit a player of Franklin’s ilk.

“We wouldn't be saying we're throwing our hat in the ring with Buddy unless we had the room," Warren said.

"The club's in a situation now where we've got some flexibility in our cap to have a look at that, whereas in the past we may not have been able to do that.”

Warren admitted the Lions are up against it, however, to secure Franklin’s services, given most clubs would love to have ‘Buddy’ in their side.

"If we could secure someone like Buddy Franklin, outstanding achievement, but there's probably 17 other clubs interested as well,” he said.

In February, Franklin poured cold water over a possible move from the Club that drafted him with pick 5 in the 2004 National Draft.

He declared he had no intention of playing anywhere but Hawthorn, but wanted to focus solely on his football.

“I have no intentions of leaving the football club, it is what it is, I just want to play footy,” he said ahead of the Indigenous All-Stars game in February.

“I love Hawthorn, they’ve been an absolutely great footy club for myself, it’s coming up to my ninth season (here).

“It’s just my decision, something I wanted to do and I wanted to leave it until the end of the season.

“I want to stay at Hawthorn.”

Franklin has been held goalless for only the second time in his career in his last two games, but his manager, Liam Pickering denies his contract status is distracting his client.

“All players have games where things just don't happen for them,” Pickering wrote in Sportsmate Mobile's Footy Live iPhone and Android app.

"Buddy would be the first to admit he has played better games than against North Melbourne and Adelaide.

"Credit must be given to Scott Thompson and Daniel Talia, who both played very well on him."
