Hawthorn Football Club is proud to acknowledge the Battle of Kokoda in the Round 13 clash against the West Coast Eagles at Etihad Stadium.

The Hawks will wear the Guernsey to raise awareness for the Kokoda Track Foundation.

The guernseys worn by each of the 22 players selected for the Round 13 clash, along with the three emergencies are up for auction now.

This unique Hawks home guernsey, manufactured by adidas specifically for this occasion, has the Hawthorn Football Club Kokoda motif on both the front and rear of the guernsey, which signifies the four pillars our playing group have adopted - courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.

The guernsey also features the opponent, date and venue on the front.

Each year, Hawthorn Football Club dedicates one match to remember the exploits of those who fought on The Kokoda Track in 1942, and to better educate Australians about the extraordinary feats of the soldiers under the most appalling conditions.

Our very own soldiers died, were wounded, and many returned scarred for life. Their families lost husbands, sons and loved ones. We live today as free citizens in a free country. We are forever in their debt.

At Hawthorn, our players have adopted the four pillars of Kokoda: courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice, as their mantra and now we intend to consistently give back in a tangible way to the children of The Kokoda Track.
