FREMANTLE has played down injury concerns to star trio Luke McPharlin, Chris Mayne and All Australian Michael Johnson declaring all three will play in Saturday’s Grand Final.
McPharlin has played just two matches since injuring his calf and appeared to be sore during the Preliminary Final win over Sydney, while Johnson too has a calf issue and spent time on the bench during the third quarter of the game.
He played out the game, but appeared to be in some discomfort.
Mayne meanwhile is battling a back injury.
Fremantle football operations manager, Chris Bond said, however, all three will play in Saturday’s decider.
“A couple of them pulled up a little bit sore in the game," Bond said on Wednesday.
"But they got through the week really well (and) doctors are under no doubt that they'll play.
"All will be available and all will play."
All three are important players for the Dockers but McPharlin in particular poses as a crucial key to the puzzle, with a likely match-up on Lance Franklin looming.
Johnson on the other hand provides much flexibility to Fremantle, with his athletic ability one of his biggest strengths. At 195cm, the All Australian defender can take marks and be just as effective at ground level and with his rebound ability.
Mayne has kicked 36 goals this season – ranked second at his club but it is more the pressure he applies that is valuable to Fremantle’s game plan.
He is ranked fourth at the club for tackles and averages 4.6 per game. He is also a dead-eye set shot for goal having kicked 36.12 this year.
He too is versatile, with is ability in the air and on the ground his strengths.
