ALASTAIR Clarkson and John Longmire couldn’t decide which Hawk was best on ground in Saturday night’s win, with Luke Hodge and Jarryd Roughead receiving top votes.
The pair scored nine votes each for their role in the win – 10 is the most votes possible each round.
The Hawks captained underlined his excellent start to the season with another 32 possession effort against the reigning premiers.
Hodge led the Hawks from the outset, gathering seven disposals in the opening 15 minutes of the game.
He had 10 inside 50s, five rebound 50s and kicked a goal in Hawthorn’s big win on Saturday night.
His nine votes puts him into equal seventh place on the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award, tied with Swan, Kieran Jack.
Roughead spent time both up forward and in the midfield, cast in the role as a rover at stages throughout the game such is his versatility.
He finished as the top goal scorer on the night with four and gathered 27 touches.
Defender Josh Gibson was also recognised for his role in defence, thwarting a number of Sydney attacks forward and holding Swans forward Sam Reid to just nine disposals.
Gibson also provided great run off half back with 27 disposals from full back.
He was awarded six votes
David Hale (two votes) and Luke Breust (one) were also given votes for their role in the win.
Breust had seven score assists for the game, the most of any player on the ground.
