Ready to rumble in the gym
After an hour long session on the track on Tuesday morning, a select group of Hawks players filtered into the Ricoh Centre gym to take part in a boxing session.
A makeshift ring was set up in the middle of the gym floor, as players paired up to take on one another in a short spar.
There was intriguing and tough battles everywhere as Josh Gibson, Ryan Schoenmakers, Kyle Cheney, Lance Franklin, David Hale and Brian Lake rotated through the ring.
Other players, including Paul Puopolo, Jack Gunston, Tim O'Brien, Hale and Schoenmakers paired up for short and sharp sessions witth one another around the gym.
The competition was fierce and the punches hard and fast as the players took their session seriously. Very seriously.
The beady eyes of Kyle Cheney were getting a workout in the ring as he took on Josh Gibson.
Ryan Schoenmakers meant business today, saying "come and get me" with his eyes.
Paul Puopolo didn't step into the ring, but he worked hard on his own boxing regimen.
Cheney goes "whack". Cop that Gibson.
Doesn't look like Gibson was too pleased with that hit, showing extra determination in the ring with Cheney.
Then he took on Schoenmakers, who had his defence ready.
Like we say when he's on the field, great defence from Schoenmakers.
He hits back with authority though as Gibson struggles to defend.
Jack Gunston has his boxing gloves ready for an intense session with fitness guru, Andrew Russell.
Next up, it's Brian Lake versus Lance Franklin - Lake well in control here.
But Franklin will keep on boxing, sussing out the moves of his opponent...
...And then striking with a mean left hook.
That hurt said Brian Lake.
Lake has him this time though, as Franklin surrenders this time.
You can see how hard Schoenmakers has been working, just from the determination and intensity on his face.
Franklin takes a breather and the end of the session, a well earned rest for the champion forward.
