Ryan Schoenmakers proved his skills are not restricted to the football field, leading his Mercedes team to victory at the 2013 Hawthorn Hospitality Corporate Golf Day at Sandhurst Club on Thursday.

72 competitors took part in the Ambrose competition, among them corporate guests and Hawthorn Football Club players, coaches and staff.

Thunder, lightning and rain threatened to slow the competition early, but cleared to produce perfect conditions for the event.

Andrew McCall from Hawthorn Brewing Co. had the beers on ice as the sun started to break through the clouds, providing some much needed refreshments for the golfers at the half-way point. This was complimented by the boutique wines on offer from Dan Gregory from Kreglinger and Ninth Island before lunch.

Mercedes Benz Melbourne also kindly supplied two brand new luxurious Mercedes for everyone to admire as they made their way around the course.

There was a variety of different competitions throughout the day with High Performance Coach David Rath leading the Lyppard team to the first victory at the 10th hole, scoring a collective 18 points in the Drive a Goal competition.

The two Nearest the Pin competitions were taken out by Simon Marshall and Sean Brady. The Longest Drive went to Michael Dudley from Who Group, and Caneron Rist from the Mayo Hardware group took home the Snake Putt prize.

Schoenmakers’ Mercedes team, with Christine Morgan, Max Dependau and Nick Beale, took out the entire competition ahead of Jack Gunston’s adidas team, consisting of Nathan Gilbert, David Sklinner and Grant McPherson.

Prizes on the day were kindly donated by The House of Golf, iiNet, Mercedes Benz – Melbourne, Ninth Island, U-Bute BBQs, Mayo Hardware and Giant Bikes

It was a great day for all involved and the Club looks forward to hosting the popular event again in 2014.
