LUKE BREUST was voted best on ground by the coaches for his performance in Hawthorn’s win over Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.
Breust booted five goals from eight scoring shots and gathered 15 disposals in the win, to be the most dangerous forward on the ground.
Despite missing three early shots on goal, Breust soon found his range in front of the big stick, converting each of his five chances in front of goal after quarter time.
He received nine votes from Alastair Clarkson and Mark Neeld for his game, a return to form in front of goal after a lean three weeks that netted him just two goals in three games.
Paul Puopolo had his best game for the season, and his performance was noted by the coaches – awarded six votes in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award.
Puopolo spent time both up forward and in the midfield as he gathered 25 disposals, had five clearances, three inside 50s and kicked two goals in the win.
Brad Sewell received five votes for his 31 possession, six tackle, five clearance and eight inside 50s game.
Ben Stratton was deemed the best defender on the ground with three votes, while Grant Birchall returned to form with 25 touches off half back. He received two votes.
Jordan Lewis also was awarded one votes while Chris Dawes was the only Melbourne player to receive votes, given four as he gathered 21 touches and took 12 marks.
