Hawks star Cyril Rioli was judged best on ground by Hawthorn Coach Alastair Clarkson and North Melbourne Coach Brad Scott in his side’s 3-point win over the Kangaroos on Sunday.

AFL Coaches award votes to players they judge to be the best performed players, with the player at the end of the season awarded the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year.

Rioli was at his dynamic best with his electrifying pace and goal sense on show for all to see as he was clearly the match winner for the Hawks.

The Hawks midfielder/forward gathered 20 disposals and kicked four telling goals before injuring his hamstring on a breathtaking run on the Southern wing of the MCG.

He was awarded a perfect 10 for his performance.

Hawthorn was arguably fortunate to walk away from Sunday’s Round 5 clash with the four points, and the coaches votes reflect that, given only two Hawks players registered votes from the coaches.

Utility Shaun Burgoyne was the only other Hawk to poll votes, with 2 while Andrew Swallow was excellent in the midfield for the Roos along with Daniel Wells.

Scott Thompson was given two votes for his performance on Lance Franklin, wearing the Hawks' spearhead like a glove and limiting his influence on the match.

Franklin kicked 0.5 for the day.

The votes
10 Cyril Rioli (Haw)
8 Andrew Swallow (NM)
6 Daniel Wells (NM)
2 Shaun Burgoyne (Haw)
2 Scott Thompson (NM)
2 Jack Ziebell (NM)
