HAWTHORN star Sam Mitchell is free to play on Saturday after being cleared of any wrongdoing for an incident involving Geelong's Joel Corey.

Mitchell was dragged down in a tackle in the dying moment of Saturday night's loss to Geelong at the MCG and fell on top of Corey as a result. The Geelong midfielder was knocked unconscious and lay for several minutes on the MCG as Cats medical staff assessed him before placing him on the stretcher.

The incident was reviewed by the Match Review Panel on Monday afternoon, with the Hawks star cleared and free to take on Port Adelaide in Adelaide on Saturday afternoon.

The panel assessed the incident and contended that Mitchell's actions were not reportable and no further action would be taken.

Mitchell was one of Hawthorn's best in the loss, gathering 36 disposals playing in the midfield and across half back.
