Hawthorn star Cyril Rioli's freak goal from the opening quarter of Friday night's win over Collingwood has been nominated for Goal of the Year.

After Jack Gunston and Collingwood's Scott Pendlebury wrestled each other to the ground in a marking contest, Rioli swooped from nowhere and squeezed between three Collingwood players.

He toe-poked the ball out in front and hooked it back with a brilliant left foot soccer goal, just as the Collingwood players were about to converge. The goal left fans in awe of his freakish ability around goals.
