SAM Mitchell's snap from the boundary in the opening quarter of Saturday's win over Greater Western Sydney has been nominated for Goal of the Year.

Mitchell gathered the footy on the boundary and was hemmed in by several opposition players. He looked to dish to a teammate, but no one in any space, decided to kick a banana from the pocket.

Off one step he nailed the goal from the near impossible angle to give the Hawks the break at quarter time.

Re-live his goal in the player above.
