At the 2013 National and Rookie drafts, Hawthorn welcomed eight new players to the Club, with three selected to join the primary list and four to the rookie list.
Over the Christmas period, hawthornfc.com.au is giving you the chance to get to know the Club’s new players on both a football and personal level.
Getting to know: Kurt Heatherley (International Rookie)
What kind of player are you: A competitive defender.
What are your strengths: I’m very competitive, hard at the footy and just give everything a crack.
What can you work on: Coming from New Zealand, I can obviously work on my kicking and general skills.
Childhood or current sporting hero (non-AFL): Probably LeBron James at the moment in the NBA.
AFL hero: I’ve looked up to Josh Gibson and Brian Lake because they’re defenders and premiership players.
Player you believe you play like most: Probably Josh Gibson.
Favourite food: Pizza
What is your pump-up song before games: I don’t listen to music much.
Favourite band or performer: Nothing at the moment.
Favourite TV show: Prison Break, back in the day.
Favourite character in a TV show and why: Michael Scofield from Prison Break, he’s a legend.
Do you have any hobbies: I like to go fishing and hang out with mates.
What is your favourite thing to do when you’re at home: Watch movies
Favourite movie and why: Happy Gilmore because it’s funny. I also like The Heat, the new funny one that came out recently.
Ideal holiday destination: I’ve just been to Bali, so I’d probably say there.
Best country or city you have visited and why: Bali because of the weather and it’s cheap.
Chocolate or vanilla: Vanilla
Fruit or vegetables: Fruit

When the season is over, which food to you go for first: KFC! KFC all day. I love it.
What are your goals for 2014: I’d love to play AFL but if not, just play consistently well for Box Hill.
