HAWTHORN football director Jason Dunstall says the club will not bring forward contract talks with Alastair Clarkson, despite Adelaide's likely interest in the premiership coach.

Reports this week suggest the Crows, who accepted Neil Craig's resignation as senior coach on Monday, will make a strong play for Clarkson, who is out of contract at the end of 2011.

The Hawks have enjoyed a successful year on field - they currently sit third on the AFL ladder - but outgoing president Jeff Kennett has maintained a firm stance that talks with Clarkson would remain on hold until after the season.

Dunstall says pressure from outside the club would not change that stance.

"Just because one club makes a change doesn't mean you dump your due process," Dunstall told Melbourne radio station Triple M on Wednesday evening.

"I know it makes for some racy talk, but I can assure you that things are continuing as normal at Hawthorn."

Responding to suggestions Clarkson would already be re-signed if it were up to Dunstall, the 269-game club legend didn't make a firm denial.

But he said that all parties remained "comfortable" with the process.

"We think the season is going pretty well, and the last thing we want to do is have these sort of distractions bob up," Dunstall said.

"So whilst everybody else is talking about it, we're not.

"Alastair's comfortable with that, and we're comfortable with that.

"Nobody wants to go anywhere and nobody wants anyone to go anywhere, so all things will sort themselves out I’m sure."
