CLUB icons Gary Ayres, Chris Langford and Stan Spinks (deceased) will be inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame at the inaugural Main Event on Friday, March 23.

Ayres, a five-time Hawthorn premiership player (1983, 1986, 1988-89 and 1991) played 269 matches for the Hawks from 1978-93 and captained the club from 1992-93.

One of the great back-pockets of all-time, Ayres was a noted big-game player, winning the Norm Smith Medal twice in 1986 and 1988. He also won the club’s best and fairest in 1986 and was named in Hawthorn’s Team of the Century.

Langford played 303 matches from 1983-97 and was a four-time premiership player, in 1986, 1988-89 and 1991. He was skipper in 1994.

Regarded as one of the greatest full-backs of all-time, Langford is now one of the AFL’s commissioners.

Spinks played 142 matches from 1932-41 and missed out on winning the 1937 Brownlow Medal by one vote to Essendon legend Dick Reynolds.

He won Hawthorn’s best and fairest in 1932 and 1938.

The night will be hosted by Hawthorn fan and Channel 10 commentator Stephen Quartermain and combines the Hall of Fame, season launch (2007 jumper presentation) and Confreres player auction into one gala night.

The Confreres is one of the club’s coterie groups and this event represents a key part of its fundraising, where players are auctioned off in 23 lots.

President Jeff Kennett and coach Alastair Clarkson will make a special address on the night. Shane Crawford will also be recognised for his AFL life membership achievement.

Main Event tickets can be purchased by calling the club's events department on (03) 9535 3069.
