Hawks defender Ben Stratton will miss the remainder of the 2011 AFL Premiership season due to a ruptured posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in his right knee.

The young defender dislocated his knee in the third quarter of the Hawks' 63 point win over Richmond on Saturday night and underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair his PCL and have the lateral ligament in his right knee stabilised.

Guided by the advice of his surgeon, Dr Julian Feller, the Club will manage Stratton’s rehabilitation with his long term career in mind, looking towards returning to play next season.

Hawthorn’s General Manger Football Operations Mark Evans said that whilst the news is disappointing, Stratton will be given every support in the months ahead.

“Ben is a quality young man with a good future at Hawthorn. We are determined to make sure he has the best possible recovery and rehabilitation from this injury,” said Evans.

“Whilst we are disappointed to lose Ben for the season, the longer term management for his playing career is far more important.”
