Hawks players Michael Osborne, Brent Guerra, Clinton Young, Brent Renouf, Carl Peterson and Ryan Schoenmakers and Assistant Coach John Barker were joined by 13CABS drivers and their families for a football carnival to celebrate 13CABS Multicultural Harmony Day at Waverley Park on Tuesday.

The drivers and their children, many of whom had never picked up a football before, participated in a skills clinic in the afternoon, which included a focus on team values of respect and responsibility.

Hawks forward Michael Osborne said the afternoon was particularly important, especially in the wake of recent assults on taxi drivers in Melbourne.

“Today is about building a relationship with cab drivers and their families to raise awareness and respect for these people who provide an important service in our community.

“It’s a service we rely on and they need to feel safe and respected in their workplace.

“Through this partnership, we hope to raise awareness that it is the responsibility of everyone in the community to treat its members with respect,” Osborne said.
