Hawthorn Football Club has appointed Cameron Bruce to the role of development coach, with former coach David Flood moving on to pursue interests outside of football.

After announcing his retirement in July, Bruce assisted the Hawks for the duration of the 2012 season in a coaching and leadership capacity.

Hawthorn Senior Coach Alastair Clarkson welcomed Bruce’s appointment.

“In his time at the Hawks, Cameron has demonstrated an aptitude in teaching and coaching younger players and he will make an excellent addition to our coaching team,” he said.

“Having only recently retired, his AFL experience and knowledge of the modern game will be invaluable to the younger players under his tutelage,” Clarkson said.

Bruce joined Hawthorn FC in 2011, adding 10 games to his AFL tally after a decorated career at Melbourne FC that included 224 games, a best and fairest in 2008 and a rising star nomination.

After four years at the Club, Development Coach David Flood will move on to pursue a career in golf course design and construction work.

Senior Coach Alastair Clarkson wished David and his wife Melissa all the best for the next chapter.

“‘Floody’ has been a great servant of our Club and we will all miss his sense of humour and relaxed outlook,” he said.

“I would like to thank him for his outstanding work, particularly with our younger players, and for his four years of commitment to the Club,” Clarkson said.

In departing, David Flood wished to thank the players, coaches and administrators involved with Hawthorn and Box Hill Football Clubs, and the Coaches’ Association for their support and assistance.
