HAWTHORN superstar Lance Franklin will accept a one-week ban by the match review panel for striking.

Franklin was booked during Saturday's 71-point win over Gold Coast at Aurora Stadium for making high contact with Suns midfielder Maverick Weller in the third quarter.

Franklin's one-match sanction remains due to a previous poor record.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Gold Coast Suns, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points).

Franklin has an existing bad record of four matches suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 40 per cent to 175 demerit points.

Franklin, who has been reported seven times in his career, will miss Friday night's clash with Essendon.
