Hawthorn’s #1 Fan program has started again for the new season, with 79-year-old Ron Allen pulling on the #1 guernsey at Hawks training on Thursday.

Ron was selected for his amazing loyalty to the Club, including 52 continuous years of membership. Ron has attended Hawthorn games since 1941 and is a third generation Hawthorn supporter, who grew up attending games at Glenferrie Oval each Saturday with his entire family.

His tradition lives on through his four children and 13 grandchildren who have all followed in his footsteps, and follow the mighty Hawks.

Among the many Hawks possessions Ron has collected over the years, nothing is more valuable than his collection of Premiership posters - 1961 being his favourite.

When asked who his favourite players of all time are, Ron was quick to name Leigh Matthews and Graham Arthur as the best. Of our current playing list, Ron couldn't go past Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin.

As part of his #1 Fan experience, Ron was presented with a traditional #1 guernsey during training on Thursday morning. He was also taken on a private tour of the Ricoh Centre, introduced to the players by Coach Alastair Clarkson and worked with Club trainers running water to players during training.
