Hawthorn Football Club confirms that unrestricted free agent Tom Murphy has agreed to terms with Gold Coast Suns and will leave the Hawks under new free agency rules.

Hawthorn Senior Coach Alastair Clarkson wished the 26 year old well and thanked him for his time at the Club.

“Tom has made a valuable contribution during his eight years at Hawthorn Football Club and I’m sure he will be an excellent leader and teacher for the younger players at Gold Coast,” Clarkson said.

“He is much admired and respected by our playing and coaching group and we wish him well in his next AFL opportunity,” he said.

Murphy was drafted by Hawthorn in 2004 at selection No.21, debuted Round 22, 2005 and played 95 games in the brown and gold.

Highly rated by staff, coaches and administrators at the Club, he has been a member of the players’ Leadership Group for the past four years.

Murphy won Hawthorn’s Most Improved award in 2008 - the Club’s premiership year - and was voted Best Clubman in 2010.
