Suckling's camp diary
Matt Suckling looks at day three of the Hawks' Tasmanian community camp
With footy so close there was a real buzz around the boys last week in training and that's continued into this community camp.
It has been a mental and physical break for us, but we've still been kept very busy.
We went to White Lion youth detention centre on Wednesday, which was a really good experience. We had a chat and a bit of a kick around with a few guys who have made some bad choices early in life and I think they really enjoyed it.
We went to another White Lion youth facility on Thursday and had a bit of a laugh with some African drums and stuff like that. They were good blokes, but it really made me realise that we can't take what we have as AFL players for granted.
We're really fortunate to have the opportunities that we do. I do something that I love for a living and most of us have been lucky enough not to have been put in some of the situations that these guys have.
It certainly put everything into perspective for me.
Our first intra-club match is on Friday and I can't wait. I've really enjoyed the mental refresher that this week has given us and the stuff we've done in the local community, but we're all really looking forward to having a good hit out.
Almost everyone will be playing so it should be strong session. Everyone's really primed to have a good one tomorrow and then really attack the NAB Cup.
We had a training session on Monday before we came down and one of the blokes said, "This is just about over" and he was right.
Over the next month or so there will be a lot more chasing the leather instead of the white line around the training track which suits me just fine.
