Shiels to miss Power
Liam Shiels will miss the Club's clash with Port Adelaide at Aurora Stadium on Sunday after accepting a one-match ban for striking.
HAWTHORN midfielder Liam Shiels will miss the Club's clash with Port Adelaide at Aurora Stadium on Sunday after accepting a one-match ban for striking.
The AFL's Match Review Panel cited Shiels for a swinging arm that collected Geelong's Allen Christensen high during Friday night's nail biting loss to the Cats.
The Club and Shiels decided to accept the ban on Tuesday morning, meaning that the midfielder won't be available for selection until the Hawks' Round 21 match against Gold Coast at the MCG.
The incident was assessed by the Match Review Panel as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points).
That is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a level two offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction.
Given Shiels has an existing poor record of two matches suspended within the last three years, the penalty was increased by 20 per cent to 150 points and a one-match sanction.
An early plea reduced the penalty by 25 per cent to 112.50 points and a one-match ban.
Defender Brent Guerra was cleared on Monday for his collision with Paul Chapman during the second quarter. The Match Review Panel concluded that Guerra was going for the ball and did not make a bumping action.
Guerra collected the football and collided with Chapman who jogged from the field after being assisted by Geelong trainers.
