"Doing everything we can"
Josh Gibson says the Hawks are striving for a four quarter performance on the weekend...
The Hawks fly to Tasmania on Friday ahead of their Round 10 clash with the Kangaroos at Aurora Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Gibson says that his teammates have been working on the recipe required to string four quarters of solid football together on the weekend.
“You can’t hang your hat on two quarters if the game goes for four,” he said.
“It’s the ability to apply yourself to all areas for four quarters, that’s how we’ll get the four points, that’s what’s important.”
The Hawks were well beaten in the midfield against the Tigers, something that Gibson says needs to be addressed against the Kangaroos, given they are the best clearance side in the competition.
The Kangaroos are dominant in the middle of the ground thanks to the work of skipper, Andrew Swallow, who is statistically the best clearance player in the AFL - averaging 7.7 clearances per game.
“Contested footy, we want to make sure that we win that area of the game,” Gibson said.
“He’s (Andrew Swallow) a fantastic midfielder, I played with him for a few years and I know his work ethic - he works so hard.
“He’s one of the top midfielders and he goes about it in the right manner and plays well most weeks.”
Gibson says his teammates are looking forward to making amends for last week’s disappointing result, and are looking for an improvement in all areas of the ground
“I know our midfielders would have been disappointed with some of the aspects of their game last weekend, but so are the defenders and forwards,” he said.
“We all want to rectify that, no matter the opposition, I know that we all respect North and they’ve got some really good guys (through the middle) who are playing some good footy.
“(We’re) just doing everything we can to get a win.”
