Thousands flock to Family Day
2012's Family Day was a huge success...
Supporters took no notice of the predicted showers, and were rewarded with sunshine at the Hawks' spiritual home. Approximately 6,000 supporters rolled through the gates, as Glenferrie turned back the clock with a sea of brown and gold around the oval.
Presenting partner Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation enjoyed a large presence on the day, educating supporters on the importance of organ donation, while giving away some great prizes.
Hawthorn players made their way around the oval, as they stopped to participate in the myriad of activities available to fans. The Zaidee’s signing marquees and Hawks Happy snaps proved to be the day's most popular attractions amongst fans.
HSBC Bank Australia had a photo booth set up - with photos taken uploaded directly to the Hawks Facebook page.
13CABS and their chocolate fountain was the place to go for those with a sweet tooth, while Launceston City Council provided samples of Tassie Devil ice cream.
Hawks players dropped by the Simply Energy marquee to sign autographs, as supporters heard about the great deals the electricity giant has to offer.
Children and their parents also caught up with Bupa Australia's mascot Bluey, who wandered around the ground and posed for photos. Hawka was also out and about, having photos and taking speccies on request.
With a variety of other activities taking place - including DraftStar footy clinics, Camp Australia craft workshops, an animal farm, a giant slide, Callaway's golf driving range - there was never a dull moment.
On stage, Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann kept the day running on schedule with exclusive player interviews on stage. Performances from Scooby Doo, Indigenous Hip Hop Projects and rockers Headspace also entertained the crowd.
The biggest news on the day was President Andrew Newbold's revelation that the Hawks had reached 50,000 members. The announcement received a great cheer from the crowd.
The Hawthorn Football Club would like to extend a thanks to students from Sports Education and Development Australia who helped with the on-ground activities.
