HAWTHORN forward Lance Franklin is expected to have a training run on Wednesday ahead of Friday night's preliminary final clash with Collingwood.

Franklin hyper-extended his knee - which caused bone-bruising - against Geelong in game one of the finals, but recovered in time to boot four goals against the Sydney Swans last week.

The Coleman medallist has this week been hit with a stomach bug, which prevented him from joining his teammates at training on Tuesday.

Despite the setback, Hawks football operations general manager Mark Evans said Franklin was in no doubt for the Magpies clash.

"There seems to be no worries with the knee," Evans told afl.com.au on Tuesday night.

"He was at the club on Monday and was checked out fully by our fitness and medical staff, from a knee and recovery point of view, and he's fine.

"He was dismissed from the club somewhere around lunchtime with gastro, which obviously left him out from the All Australian awards on Monday night.

"But he went and caught up with our doctor again today, had a bit of a walk, and got some anti-nausea medication, and he was feeling a bit better.

"So we're expecting him to recover pretty quickly from here, probably train tomorrow and then he'll be right again for Friday."

Evans also said there was no concern over first year dynamo Paul Puopolo, who grabbed his hamstring towards the end of the semi-final win.

"He was hobbling around and looking pretty awkward, but it was only a cramp high up in the hamstring and groin," Evans said.

"He's fine; he'll be no worries."

The season is over for premiership wingman Clinton Young, who still hasn't recovered from an ankle sprain that was only expected to keep him out for one or two weeks.

The 25 year-old won't require surgery, but has missed his chance to take part in Hawthorn's finals campaign.

He hasn't played a senior game since round 16.

"He's just going to run out of time," Evans said.

"That ankle has just been grumbling along.

"He got up to a reasonable level with it, but was never able to get to full tilt, so it always felt like it was two steps forward, one step backwards.

"He just hasn't played recently, so he's not going to be able to get to the line."
