Hawthorn Football Club today hosted the book launch of The Golden Years - stories from Hawthorn's greatest era.

The Golden Years shares Hawthorn’s inside story. With 10 AFL premierships to its name, no club has been more successful than the Hawks in the last 50 years.

For the first time, more than 40 players, coaches and officials responsible for this fantastic era explain - in their own words - what has made Hawthorn such a great club.

The launch was held at Waverley Park on Wednesday 17 August and was opened by an outstanding group of Club greats spanning five decades - John Kennedy Senior, Graham Arthur, Peter Knights, Gary Ayres, David Parkin, Alastair Clarkson  and Luke Hodge.

The Waverley Park facility was packed with journalists and reporters from various media outlets as well as numerous AFL figures who were lucky enough to witness historical video footage of all of the Hawks' ten premierships, as well as a question-and-answer panel with the hosting group.

1961 Captain Graham Arthur touched on the importance of the book and the significance it plays to the Club's history.

"It's one of the great celebrations of the Hawthorn Footy Club.

"For me, to win the first flag and to be here 50 years on to celebrate the golden anniversary is something special," Arthur said.

The celebrations continued as a select group of the past players and Club greats attended a signing session in HawksNest - the Club’s merchandise store.

The Golden Years is now available for purchase from HawksNest Online and slatterymedia.com.
