Hawks support Blue Ribbon Day
Remembering the 151 members of Victoria Police who have been killed in the line of duty.
Hawthorn Football Club supports the Blue Ribbon Foundation by participating in the annual Blue Ribbon Cup against St Kilda each year.
Blue Ribbon Day was started in 1998 following the murders of Senior Constable Rodney Miller and his partner, Sergeant Gary Silk in Moorabbin.
The day has now evolved as the community’s day of remembrance for all members of Victoria Police who have been killed in the line of duty through a program of public memorial services and other activities.
Badges and free blue ribbon stickers are available from a range of outlets including police stations, 7-eleven stores, St George and Westpac Bank branches, RACV offices, the Royal Melbourne Show and Hawthorn Football Club.
Money raised from Blue Ribbon Day is used to build new and improved emergency facilities in Victoria’s public hospitals named in memory of fallen officers. The foundation has donated more than $5 million to help build 23 life-saving units in hospitals since its formation.
For a detailed list of times and locations for all memorial services people can visit the Blue Ribbon Day website, http://www.remember.org.au
