It was a miserable day for both Box Hill players and spectators as the Hawks were overrun by the Casey Scorpions at Casey Fields, 3.9.27 to 10.10.70.

Box Hill only managed to kick three goals for the entire game with very few highlights for the Hawks.

The Hawks had their chances in the first quarter but couldn’t make the most of them due to the wet, blustery conditions.

The Scorpions’ defenders were taking uncontested marks and rebounding well against the Hawks’ forwards, with Box Hill’s first goal coming at the 10-minute mark of the second quarter thanks to a set shot from Ben Monkhorst from outside 50.

With the weather having a massive impact on the game, Box Hill made simple skill errors and missed targets, giving Casey the opportunity to win the ball back.

While the Hawks were winning their share of the ball around the middle of the ground, they were unable to convert as they moved forward.

In contrast, Casey’s forwards were causing headaches for the Hawks’ defense, taking marks and converting when the Hawks were not.

The Hawks were still a chance at the three quarter time break at only 19 points down.

The Scorpions went on to shut down the game, kicking the first two goals of the term within five minutes of the last quarter which signaled game-over for Box Hill and a 43-point victory to Casey.
