Buddy's 13 buries the Roos
Hawthorn star Lance Franklin kicks a stunning 13 goals as his side decimates the Roos by 115 points
STAR forward Lance Franklin's stunning 13-goal haul has propelled Hawthorn to a record 115-point demolition of North Melbourne at Aurora Stadium on Saturday.
Criticised for his accuracy during the week, 'Buddy' bettered nine-goal hauls against Essendon in 2007 and 2008 with 13.4 as the Hawks decimated the Roos 27.12 (174) to 9.5 (59).
That topped the 95-point victories for Hawthorn against North in 1971 and 1988.
Franklin had kicked 21.36 heading into the game but toyed with an insipid Kangaroos outfit in front of 16,143 fans.
Luke Breust booted three majors for Hawthorn while Jordan Lewis, Clinton Young, Cyril Rioli and Paul Puopolo bagged doubles.
For the Kangaroos, Sam Wright kicked three.
The much-hyped battle of the part-time Tasmanians was more about two misfiring outfits looking for form - but only one of them did, and they did it spectacularly.
Hawthorn kicked nine unanswered goals in less than 20 minutes to turn a 25-13 deficit near the end of the first quarter into a 77-40 half-time lead.
The Hawks booted eight majors in the third quarter to North's one and seven to two in the last.
The Kangaroos have now lost four of their past five as another season that began with promise hangs by a thread.
The Hawks have won four of their past five with last round's loss to Richmond looking more and more like a blip.
Franklin had six goals by the long break, his first four coming in succession - and turning the match on its head.
His aggressive afternoon out came complete with several push-and-shove moments with Kangaroos niggler Scott Thompson, who at least managed to get under the skin of the champion.
Franklin booted the last goal of the first quarter - the third in the nine-goal blitz - and then the first three of the second, including a spectacular three-kick effort from a Hawks defensive kick-in.
He had 10 by the end of the third quarter and kicked two in the final minutes to ensure the baker's dozen.
His 204 Dream Team points mark the highest score in the fantasy competition's history, and his 13 goals the biggest haul since Scott Cummings kicked 14 against Adelaide in 2000.
It is also the biggest bag kicked in an AFL match at Aurora Stadium.
Franklin is now leading the Coleman Medal race with 34 goals, three ahead of Tiger Jack Riewoldt, who kicked eight goals against St Kilda on Friday night.
The Hawks had looked in trouble in the first quarter despite an early 13-1 lead.
North Melbourne kicked four straight goals to lead 25-13 before Hawthorn's blitz began.
