Hawthorn takes on Carlton at the MCG on Friday night, in the first match of the AFL's Multicultural Round.

Multicultural Round celebrates the significant contribution multicultural Australia has made to Australian football.

Hawthorn Football Club has been a proud partner of the AFL’s Multicultural Program since it began in 2006.

During that time, over 18,000 students from 119 schools with a high multicultural student population from the south east region of metropolitan Melbourne have had experiences in football clinics, Hawthorn match visits, tours of the MCG and visits to the National Sports Museum, half time in grid matches on the MCG and Etihad Stadium and the opportunity to meet Hawthorn players.

Students involved in Hawthorn’s Multicultural Program will attend training at the Ricoh Centre on Thursday as they prepare to play at half time of Friday night's match.

These students will also take part in a guard of honour before the game, dressed in traditional costumes from their respective countries as Hawks players make their way onto the field.

Melbourne’s 17-piece Public Opinion Afro Orchestra (POAO) and guest MC N’FA will play live music to celebrate the diverse cultures that make up the AFL community - POAO’s song ‘Do Anything, Go Anywhere’ is the theme for this year’s Multicultural Round.

Children from Hawthorn’s Multicultural Program enjoy the AFL Playground before playing during the half time break of the Round 1 match against Collingwood.
