Sore Lewis a certain starter against Pies
Jordan Lewis is guranteed to play against Collingwood on Saturday despite a heavy hit last week
Lewis was concussed in a sickening collision with Bulldog Jarrod Harbrow last Sunday but coach Alastair Clarkson says he is set to line up against the Magpies.
"His concussion has been no worries [but] it was like a train wreck," Clarkson said on Friday morning.
"While he got hit in the head, he got hit in the body pretty hard too.
"It's had the affect right through his body. He's been a little sore and sorry throughout the week but he'll be OK to play."
While Lewis will take his place for the Hawks, Josh Gibson (hamstring injury) and Lance Franklin (suspension) will miss out.
Franklin was suspended for a week for a hit on Bulldog Jason Akermanis and the Hawks coach said there was still some confusion around the legalities of bumping.
"The confusing part is the severity of the impact and how little that was. Some guys can miss games for very little impact and others can not miss games when there's been significant impact," he said.
"That's the difficult thing and I'm not saying it's an easy job at all for the match review panel and the administrators of the game. I don't really know the answer to be fair. It is a really difficult situation."
Gibson is set to miss up to three months after severely injuring his hamstring last week against the Bulldogs and Clarkson says his absence will result in some reshuffling of the line-up.
"We recruited Gibson for a key reason to give us more support in that area of the ground with (Trent) Croad going down. It's not just a couple of weeks either, he is going to be missing for the best part of a year. That is a pretty savage blow to our fortunes," he said.
"Young (Ben) Stratton came in and did a good job on Rob Murphy last week. We've got Gilham and Hodge, who can play back when we need it, but he may need to (play in defence) again this week."
The good news for the Hawks is the return from injury of Clinton Young for his first senior match in almost a year.
"He has spent a long time out of the game and he had started to emerge as a pretty important player in our structure. His first half in the grand final (in 2008) was really good for us. We've really missed his run and kicking skills in our side," Clarkson said.
"He hasn't played since round five last year. We had him and Ladson out of our side and the retirement of (Shane) Crawford - it's a fair bit of run out of your side in 2009. We are really delighted to have him back in our mix now."
