HAWTHORN faces welcome selection dilemmas ahead of its clash with Fremantle on Saturday night, with Chance Bateman, Matt Suckling and Jordan Lisle all fit and available for the trip west.

Suckling, who has made a name for himself this season with his piercing left-foot kicking, was rested from Sunday's win over Melbourne with back tightness.

"He freed up towards the end of last week, but he hadn't participated in all of the training earlier in the week when we were doing the full-blown skills," Hawks football operations general manager Mark Evans told hawthornfc.com.au on Wednesday morning.

"Because we had some extra players available it was a no-risk policy with him."

Bateman is ready to return from the ankle strain sustained against Collingwood in round 15.

"He was pretty close last weekend, so he's ready to play now," Evans said.

"He had a pretty solid week of training last week, and rather than backing that up with a full game he probably needed that extra week just to make sure he was right to go."

Lisle made his comeback from facial surgery for Box Hill in the VFL on the weekend.

The 21 year-old showed his versatility, starting at full back opposed to Northern Bullants' Carlton-listed forward Setanta O'hAilpin before shifting forward and booting two goals.

He is now sure to come into contention for a call-up to face Fremantle.

"He played really well and didn't seem to give much consideration to (his face) at all," Evans said.

"He was involved in a lot of marking contests and tackles, and just played pretty normally.

"So it's ended up being a pretty good recovery for him."

Young wingman Shane Savage was the only addition to the Hawks' rapidly shortening injury list following the Demons clash.

He could be left home this weekend after suffering a knock to his shoulder.

"We haven't done too much yet, because we played on Sunday, but we'll assess him later in the week," Evans said.

"He was a little bit sore after the game so we'll wait and see how he pulls up."

Joining Suckling, Bateman and Lisle on the comeback path are veteran midfielder Cam Bruce and key position player Ryan Schoenmakers.

Bruce ran out for Box Hill on Saturday in his first match since injuring his knee in round five.

Evans reported that the former Demon "played about 75 to 80 per cent of the game and seemed to get through pretty well".

"He's certainly cleared to play, so now (selection in the senior team) just comes down to performance and the availability of a spot."

Schoenmakers played limited game time for Box Hill reserves.

He's being eased back towards senior football after missing five weeks with a sore spot in his foot.

"We only wanted to play him for 40 or 50 minutes," Evans said.

"He'll still need some more game time and Box Hill have got a bye this week so we'll probably have some form of match-style training later in the week."

Ruckman Brent Renouf is making steady progress in his recovery from surgery to remove his gall bladder, but the club has still not put a timeframe on his return.

The premiership player saw his specialist in the past week and should soon progress from cycling and swimming into skills.

"The specialist is happy with where he's at at the moment, but it's still a progressive and staged recovery for him," Evans said.

"We just need to let him work through each of those stages."
