Not hard enough: Lewis
Jordan Lewis says the Hawks weren't as hard at the ball as they needed to be against Adelaide
MIDFIELDER Jordan Lewis says Hawthorn weren't hard enough in Saturday night's narrow preliminary final win over Adelaide.
The heavily favoured Hawks looked a chance to suffer an upset defeat when Graham Johncock's goal put the visitors in front as the clock ticked into time-on in the final quarter.
But Hawthorn steadied to run out five-point winners, setting up a Grand Final showdown with the Sydney Swans on Saturday.
On Monday, Lewis was asked whether the Hawks had been as hard at the contest as possible against the Crows, and conceded there was room for improvement.
"I think looking back on the game, that assumption is probably right," he said.
"There were a few instances early.
"I know there was one where I went back with the flight and didn't mark a ball I probably should have marked.
"But we'll learn from the experience.
"We can only go out there this weekend and try to rectify it."
The 26-year-old said the Hawks would expect "a brutal contest" against the Swans.
Lewis' co-vice-captain Jarryd Roughead addressed the team's other problem area from the weekend win, its goalkicking, with the Hawks managing 13.19.
But the versatile big man said there would be no special focus on converting shots this week.
"We'll just get out there and focus on what we've been doing all year," Roughead said.
"We've got a couple of goalkicking sessions this week, but not much has to change.
"We've just got to finish off better, and if we do that in the first quarter, it gives us a good platform for the rest of the game.
"We've got the confidence within the group to know that we can kick the goals."
