CYRIL Rioli has downplayed his subbing off against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday, saying he's keen to face Gold Coast this weekend.

The Hawthorn star suffered a corked calf during the first quarter of his team's 46-point win over the Bulldogs.

He played on with the calf strapped for the next two terms, but was handed the red substitute's vest at three-quarter time.

"Our head trainer thought it would be a good idea to sub me off, and it was good to have a bit of a rest," Rioli told Bigpond Sports Weekend on Sunday.

The 22-year-old said he'd put his hand up for selection in round 24.

"I guess it'll be up to the fitness staff and the coach, but I'd like to get a bit of work in before the finals.

"We'll see how we go this week."

Rioli took part in recovery at Waverley on Monday, jogging laps and completing a short skills session.

Hawthorn's clash with the Suns will have no bearing on the make-up of the finals.

The Hawks are safe in third position and will face Geelong in a qualifying final regardless of Saturday's result.
