It was a disappointing day for the Box Hill Hawks at Avalon Airport Oval on Sunday, completely outplayed by the Werribee Tigers by 47 points, 20.10.130 to 11.17.83.

It was a slow and congested start to the game, taking the Tigers until the eight minute mark of the first quarter to snare the first goal of the match.

Captain Sam Gibson and Ryan Jackson were standouts in the first quarter as the contest grew tighter.

Both teams were working hard around the contest, with Hawthorn-listed Luke Lowden putting in a running effort resulting in a goal for the Hawks.

A more free-flowing game emerged in the second term which saw The Tigers rebounding quickly out of defense.

The contest went downhill for the Hawks, as the Tigers were able to run and spread in numbers, creating plenty of options running forward.

Hawks utility Adam Pattison consistently put his body on the line, with one such effort resulting in Luke Lowden slotting through a much needed goal in the 17-minute mark of the third quarter.

Box Hill was disappointing; almost handing the ball to Werribee by making simple skill errors.

Unfortunately for Box Hill things continued to deteriorate as the game progressed, with the Hawks almost handing the ball to Werribee by making simple skill errors.

The Tigers went into the final break with a 55 point lead. The Hawks however were able to rally and came out with intent in the final term, winning the quarter.

Goals to Ryan Jackson, Luke Bruest and Jordan Lisle boosted the Hawks, who in the end were completely outplayed by the Tigers.

It was a disappointing result for the Hawks after a motivating victory last week against Coburg.

With a bye next week, Box Hill faces Sandringham on Saturday 14 May at Box Hill City Oval.
