HAWTHORN wrapped up its 2009 Telstra AFL Community Camp on Thursday and by all accounts the Hawks were a major hit right across Tasmania.

This year's camp saw players visit numerous locations, events and communities in and around nine towns across the state including Huonville, Ulverstone, Scottsdale and Port Arthur.

Coach Alastair Clarkson was present at the club's season launch breakfast in Hobart on Thursday morning and he reflected on another successful Tasmanian odyssey.

"We're one of the more fortunate clubs in that we can really invest heavily in our community camps because we've got such a strong association with the Tasmanian public through the major sponsorship," Clarkson said.

"We've been coming down here for our community camp for a fair while now. The players have been stretched right across the state.

"I think the three days has been really worthwhile not only for the Tasmanian people, but also our footy club."

Captain Sam Mitchell and his team hit the state from all angles on Tuesday and have barely stopped to catch a breath since.

"It's fantastic coming down here, we love the environment and we love the turnouts we get," Mitchell said.

"Wednesday we were all over the state. We had three groups based out of Hobart and my group went to Port Arthur. [We] then conducted a clinic and went to a local football club where we watched them train”.

"Three groups did the same sorts of things in Launceston and it's amazing how much of Tasmania we've been able to see as players."

While in Tasmania the Hawks have joined in activities including beach cricket, hang-gliding and mountain biking, while also conducting footy clinics and attending fund raising events for local charities.

It's a jam-packed three days as the players still have to manage to fit in some training sessions where they can, but all were happy for the break from the pre-season routine.

"It's always good to come back to Tassie and we've had a great few days. It's been fantastic for some of the guys to experience different parts of Tasmania," said Campbell Brown.

Tom Murphy's group was based out of Hobart and he welcomed the chance to get away from the sweltering heat of Melbourne.

"My group was up in Swansea on Wednesday so we had a bit of fun up there with some beach cricket … Then we headed to Hobart for a clinic on Wednesday. It's been a good few days," he said.

"They're very welcoming down here and it's nice to see the smiles on kids' faces. They love their footy and it's not that big of an ask for us to … put a bit back into the community."

Rick Ladson's group took the long, winding trip up to the top of Mount Wellington on Thursday which left a few Hawks feeling a little green around the gills, but he maintained the breath-taking views of Hobart from the summit made it well worth the journey.

"This is fantastic. I'm not too good with heights, but it's good to see this view and get out amongst it," Ladson said.

The Hawks departed Tasmania on Thursday evening, but will return to kick off their NAB Cup campaign against Melbourne at Aurora Stadium on Saturday February 21.
