The fists were firing as the Hawks held their annual ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ boxing tournament at the Ricoh Centre today, with players padding-up and facing-off in a makeshift ring in front of fellow teammates and staff.
Standout match-ups included Josh Gibson versus Kyle Cheney, Chance Bateman versus fellow midfielder Sam Mitchell, Lance Franklin taking on amateur figher Jason Watley and former amateur boxer turned Hawk Mitch Hallahan battling it out with Roger Grant, current Victorian amateur boxer and trainer.
Hawthorn’s boxing coach Jerry Murphy was there to umpire and judge the winner of each fight, while Will Tomlinson, undefeated Australian super featherweight boxer awarded the overall winner of the day to Mitch Hallahan.
