Tuesdays with Todd: Sewell a stand-out v Cats
We were really pleased again with Brad Sewell's form in the tight win against Geelong
Last Sunday's win against Geelong was a very tight contest. The Cats had been in really good form leading into the match and it was always going to be a tough encounter in tricky, windy conditions, which made it difficult to show off the skills.
It was great to come away with a four-point win. Simon Taylor's mark deep in Geelong's forward line in the dying seconds was a highlight.
We were really pleased again with Brad Sewell's form last round.
He would've polled really well so far in our best and fairest award over the past three rounds, after playing some very good footy. Brad had a big job on Paul Champman, who is a fine player, and he performed very well.
Chapman had some influence, but for the majority of the match, we thought Brad produced a very solid job, while having some impact for us. Sewelly had six inside 50s for us and Chapman had two for his side. Chapman also didn't have a shot at goal, so we thought Brad was very good defensively, as well as offensively.
We knew Chapman and Gary Ablett would be very important for the Cats, so we gave Michael Osborne the job on Ablett. Ossie did a fair job on Ablett, too.
We've also been pleased with the recent performances of Clinton Young, Grant Birchall and Ben McGlynn. We're getting good returns from a good spread of players, which is the key.
This weekend we take on one of the boom sides of the competition – the Western Bulldogs. They play some really exciting footy and it will be another challenge for us. The Dogs have a couple of extra preparation days on us and they're a hard-running team. So we're going to have to prepare well this week and make sure we're fresh.
Our skates will be needed against the Dogs, but we're looking forward to it and it should be a great contest.
