Over 47 days Hawks Senior Coach Alastair Clarkson will share his thoughts on each player on the Hawthorn list - from guernsey number 48 to 2.

What Clarko says

9. Shaun Burgoyne

Shaun Burgoyne enters his third season at the Hawthorn Football Club and will wear the number 9 guernsey once again in season 2012.

We’re really blessed to have guys of Shaun’s quality on our list.

Both he and Chance Bateman who I wrote about yesterday are great ambassadors for the Indigenous players who have entered our game over the last 30 years.

Before he came to Hawthorn, Shaun spent the bulk of his career at Port Adelaide.

He’ll hopefully notch up his 200th AFL game with our Club early in the upcoming season, and will potentially secure his second premiership in the not too distant future.

Shaun’s been a high quality player for a long time.

He’s spent most of his career playing in the midfield, but such is his flexibility that he can play up forward and in defence, where we find that he provides us with great rebounding.

We expect Shaun to play a consistent role for us in the upcoming season; he’s got great speed and unbelievable strength in his core to be able to withstand tackles and break out of packs, and that is his great benefit as a midfield player.

We feel that his rebounding in defence really is first class, and if we can play him in that area of ground we might be able to increase his longevity in the game as opposed to the crash-and-bash of the midfield.

His pre-season to-date has been top notch, and we really look forward to seeing what he can contribute to our side in season 2012.

Tomorrow we feature guernsey number 8 in Xavier Ellis who has had a few injury interrupted seasons.

His pre-season training over the last few months has been very strong, and we expect a solid contribution from him in season 2012.
