Tassie Hawks in Schools Program
Every primary school across Tasmania will receive a free sports pack as part of a joint initiative by Hawthorn Football Club.
Over 56,000 primary school children in 226 government and non-government schools will have access to new sporting equipment including AFL footballs, netballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, basketballs and a pump.
In addition, all grade four students will receive a Hawks and MBF Schools Workbook. Developed in conjunction with the Tasmanian Department of Education and leading health insurer MBF, the booklets provides fun and engaging content detailing some key educational, sporting and health related information aimed at kids.
Hawthorn Chief Executive Ian Robson, who was schooled in Hobart, was pleased to announce the program as a further extension of the strong partnership between the Hawks, MBF and Tasmania.
“School should always be a place of fun, games and learning – and it’s essential to have the right equipment and resources,” said Robson.
“The Tassie Hawks in Schools Program is another great example of the Tasmanian Government and the Hawks, along with our partner MBF, providing a great community initiative to further the development of our most important resource – our children.”
In addition to the sports packs and as part of the Tassie Hawks in Schools Program, all grade four students in Tasmania will receive a Tassie Hawks in Schools booklet, developed by Hawthorn’s major partner MBF in conjunction with the Department of Education.
AFL Legend and MBF Business Development Manager, Peter Hudson, said MBF was enormously excited to be part of the Tassie Hawks in School Program.
“This fantastic initiative aligns our long-term goal of helping people lead healthier, happier and longer lives - and what better way to encourage the next generation to lead a healthy lifestyle than by combining our passion for football and fitness,” Hudson said.
Hudson went on to say that the MBF Hawks Express will also be travelling to Tasmanian primary schools to help conduct footy clinics and spread the message of healthy living.
“Combined with the MBF Hawks Express, we are proud to be able to deliver with Hawthorn and the Tasmanian Government a practical program that will encourage children across the state to lead healthy lifestyles,” he said.
The Hawks in Schools Program is part of the Club’s broader community programs throughout Tasmania which includes community partnership with Down Syndrome Tasmania and the Beacon Foundation, the annual Community Camps across the State, The MBF Hawks Express, support of junior football leagues in Tasmania, NEC Tassie Hawks Cup and its weekly children’s TV program – HawksKids.
