The environment is on course for a massive winning streak this footy season as Carbon Planet, the Australian emissions reduction company, gets set to send AFL green as part of Origin’s Go Green For Footy campaign.

Hawthorn Football Club is leading the way in the Australian sporting community by participating in Carbon Planet’s very first AFL club emissions audit. The company will keep footy clubs in check by analysing the whole range of carbon emissions, from electricity and gas to pokie machines and club entertainment. Recommendations will then be given to help the AFL keep on track to a green future.

Popular Hawthorn player, Ben Dixon, showed his environmental support by appearing at Hawthorn to oversee the audit by Carbon Planet last Thursday morning.

Following this first landmark event, Carbon Planet will analyse the environmental footprint of many more winning clubs who are keen to keep their emissions in check. Other participating clubs include Collingwood, St Kilda, Carlton, Melbourne, Richmond, Adelaide and Geelong, North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs.

This initiative is part of the Origin Go Green for Footy program which continues to exert its influence across the sports arena and tackle global warming head-on. The ultimate aim is to make AFL the very first carbon-neutral professional sporting code in the world.

“AFL clubs are really sending out a positive message to the community by taking the initiative to become environmentally friendly,” said Dave Sag, co-founder and CEO of Carbon Planet.

“The sport has a massive following, and will hopefully encourage fans to offset their own activities whilst showing support for the team. We hope that more sports will follow this positive lead and make a concerted effort to reduce their carbon footprints and become environmentally friendly.”

The Origin Go Green for Footy campaign is encouraging footy fans to join their favourite clubs in the fight against climate change. Carbon Planet allows both businesses and individuals to offset their entire carbon footprint and truly become environmentally friendly for the price of a cup of coffee a day.
