JARRYD Roughead and Liam Shiels are both available for Hawthorn's Easter Monday clash with Geelong, but skipper Luke Hodge is still rated an unlikely starter.
Hawks football operations general manager Mark Evans said the club was taking a conservative approach with Hodge's calf injury, which he suffered at training in the lead-up to the round one win over Collingwood.
"It's settled down OK, but he still won't have done much of the training just yet," Evans told hawthornfc.com.au on Tuesday.
"So the first phase is to settle it down and then the second phase is to see where it's really at.
"Because it's Easter Monday, we've got a bit of time, but we have been pretty open in saying that it's less likely that he'll play."
Roughead is ready to play his first AFL match since rupturing his Achilles against the Cats nearly 10 months ago.
"He was named an emergency last week, which means once you get named in the AFL 25, you're right to go," Evans said.
"It just comes down to a coaching call now."
Midfielder Shiels played for Box Hill last Thursday night after missing the Hawks' last three games of the NAB Cup with a corked quad.
He is also available for senior selection.
"Because he'd missed a couple of weeks of game time, he needed to get a bit of game practice back in," Evans said.
Second year player Paul Puopolo is set to spend another week on the sidelines with back and hamstring tightness.
"I wouldn't expect that he'd be in the mix for this week, but potentially for the week after," Evans said.
Key defender Stephen Gilham played half a game with Box Hill last week in his comeback from a ruptured ACL.
He is expected to line up with the Hawks' VFL affiliate again this weekend as he works towards a senior return.
"He'll obviously be carefully progressed and still be a number of weeks away," Evans said.
And the club is yet to put a timeframe on Max Bailey's wrist injury.
The ruckman needed surgery after re-aggravating a previous injury against Melbourne during the NAB Cup.
"We said right up front that he'd probably miss the first couple of months of the season, but we'll get a clearer picture on that as we go through," Evans said.
"You just need to respect it early days. You don't want to go out and do something silly on that injury early.
"The good thing about Max is that he can run his heart out, so our fitness coach Andrew Russell can condition him right up.
"But it'll keep him out of ball work for a while."
