Day lights up the Hawks
This young man can do no wrong. When all looked dire with the Blues booting the first five goals of the match, a 19-year-old fourth-gamer stepped up to steady the ship. After marking on the 50 arc on a tight angle, Day sidestepped around the man on the mark, put it on the boot, and sent through an absolute beauty. One would be forgiven for not realising this was his first AFL goal, such was its class. It may have been the Hawks' first goal for the night, but it set the standard for what was to come.
Teamwork is the thing that talks
It's a passage loved by coaches and fans alike; when the players are all surging towards goal, seemingly in sync with what their teammates are going to do before they do it. The decision making and awareness from Chad Wingard here is second to none - watch, and emulate, kids!
Burgoyne, to Impey, to Wingard, to Smith. Not a bad quartet of Hawthorn names. Not bad at all.
Guess who's back, back again!
It's impossible not to love Jarman Impey. His dash out of the backline, his courageous style of play and his infectious grin have captured the hearts of the brown and gold faithful. It has been a difficult 12 months for the Hawks' number four, but on Friday night it was as though those 12 months had never happened; Jarman was back bringing as much excitement as ever, and this goal (along with the celebrations that followed) was the icing on the cake.
