Hawks recruit Tom Phillips says he feels he has a responsibility to help bond the list in his first season at the club.

Phillips has proven a prudent pick-up in his opening months in the brown and gold, but the wingman is eyeing an even greater impact moving forward.

The 24-year-old says he feels that the list's lower numbers across his age bracket represents an opportunity for him.

"Coming in at my age now, it's pretty lean where I am, there's a lot of guys 22 and under and there's a few between 27 and 30," Phillips said.

"I feel a lot of power and a bit of responsibility as well because I think I can be a good conduit and someone who can connect really well with the young guys.

"But then also with the older guys and the more senior players, I see that as an exciting base to work and build my game off moving forward."

We haven't done THAT since 2016! Find out what the Hawks achieved on the weekend for the first time in nearly five years...

Phillips said he feels his development phase at Collingwood has now transitioned into a more senior position in the brown and gold.

"I think it was a bit of an older group at the Pies and there was already quite an established leadership there so it was a bit of a different structure and a different environment.

"For me, I was in my first to fifth years there so I was learning the ropes and I think I showed glimpses of what I could do and where my capabilities lie but also a lot of learning and a lot of growth was where that was at with Collingwood.

"So, I think coming across can give me a really good opportunity moving forward to really step forward with my footy but also with my influence around the group.

"I want to really step up and be a bit of a leader and just immerse myself in the culture."
