A number of young Hawks continue to put their hands up for senior selection with some strong performances for Box Hill.

There's Emerson Jeka who has now booted 11 goals and been a force of the airways over the last two weeks.

Ned Reeves who has consistently been dubbed the "dominant ruckman on the ground" in the club's recent string of practice matches.

Olly Hanrahan who has been praised for his defensive pressure and attitude since returning to the reserves.

Conor Nash who has found his spot as a lead-up forward for the side and has stood out with his physicality.

And James Cousins who continues to amass huge numbers of possessions whilst also being a scoring source.

The results? Not quite. The promise? There for all to see. A look at some of the 'elite' numbers our youngsters are putting up.

Key forward Mitch Lewis accepted a one-match ban for striking Docker Caleb Serong last week while Daniel Howe's sore sternum means he has an injury cloud hovering over his availability this week, meaning two spots in the Hawks 22 could open up automatically ahead of Sunday's clash with the Demons.

So, which way will the Hawks match committee opt for?

Jacob Koschitzke was rested for the Fremantle clash and could earn an instant re-call in Lewis' absence.

There's been promising signs throughout the first three games of the 20-year-old's career that Hawks fans would be desperate to see more of.

Or could the selection committee reward Jeka's productivity in front of goal with a senior debut?

His intensity at the contest of late has reflected a determined youngster keen to have his opportunity to show his wares on the big stage.

Cousins seems the most 'like-for-like' replacement if Howe was to be unable to prove his fitness or will someone else pique the interest of Alastair Clarkson and his crew?

It's a positive position for the club to find itself in.

To borrow (and slightly adapt) a famous Clarkson adage, 'replacing a (young) soldier with another (young) soldier'.

The team to take on Melbourne will be announced on Saturday at 6.20pm AEST.
