Shaun Burgoyne will miss this weekend’s game against the Eagles, with the utility requiring slightly longer than first expected in his recovery from a minor ankle injury.

“As we know, Shaun hurt his ankle a couple of weeks ago against Adelaide down in Tasmania,” Physical Performance Manager Luke Boyd said.

“It is progressing, we’re going to build him up across the course of the week, but we don’t think at this stage he’s going to be able to do enough to be available to play.

“Shaun will miss this week’s game and we’ll reassess next week.”

Jaeger O’Meara and Chad Wingard will both be monitored across the course of the week to determine their availability for Sunday’s match, after the important duo missed the Hawks’ Round 7 loss due to soreness.

Jonathon Ceglar is also facing an important training week, with ruckman looking to test his fitness following an ankle injury sustained in Box Hill’s Round 1 loss.

Denver Grainger-Barras has made strong strides in his recovery from a knee hyperextension, this week progressing his running program to incorporate changing directions.

“Denver is starting to progress well now, he’s been running for about two weeks, and we’ve started some change of direction work with him,” Boyd said.

“As we know with these hyperextension injuries to the knee, they tend to be a little bit slow early, but once they do get going you tend to see some good progression and we’re getting to that stage now with Denver.”
